**Engineer II**
This is a TestEvaluation and Support Team contract position \\(TEST2\\) contract position at the NASA White Sands Test Facility\\. This position may be assigned to JacobsTechnology or a teammate company\\.
This is a position in the HazardousTest Engineering Branch \\(MT1\\) of the WSTF Materials & ComponentsLaboratories Office\\. The positioninvolves working with a team to conduct composite overwrapped pressure vessel\\(COPV\\) testing, training, and technology development\\. The engineer will provide support to COPVGroup in the following areas: project management, test system design andanalysis, performing hazards analysis and safety reviews, interface with customers, generating work authorization documents,conduct testing, performing data analysis, generating test reports, presentCOPV damage detection training, provide oversight for test technicians\\. Knowledge and basic understanding of solidmodeling and drawing creation, finite element analysis, experimentalmethods/design, hydraulic and pneumatic test systems is preferable\\. Previousexperience with instrumentation/data acquisition, remotely controlledoperations, test plans and test preparation is required\\. Some familiarity with basic vacuum andpressure systems technology is desired\\. Performsa variety of routine engineering tasks, requires experience and familiarizationwith engineering methods, practices and programs\\. Makes recommendations to improve efficienciesbased upon data and trends\\. The engineer may be cross trained and utilized inother areas within the WSTF Materials & Components Laboratories Office\\. Preferencewill be given to highly motivated candidates with prior experience in COPVtechnology and testing\\. Must haveexcellent communication skills, customer & safety focus, and work well in ateam environment\\.
BS degree in Aerospace,Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited engineeringprogram and one \\(1\\) to two \\(2\\) years related engineering experience, or MSdegree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program\\. Degrees inEngineering Technology are not considered to be qualified for this position\\. Previous experience with COPV technology andtesting highly desirable
**Essential Functions:**
Position is located on a hazardoustesting facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of anemergency\\. Will be required to climbstairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting\\. Will be required towear personnel protective equipment as required for the location and conditionsof work\\. Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing\\. Physicalrequirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs/ladders,and access to remote structures\\. Typically required to lift and hold up to 30pounds\\.
Desk/office work and hazardous testarea work\\. Will be required to workinside and outside\\. Position requires individual to travel to different areason site\\. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, anddirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility\\. Exemptemployees will not operate equipment and machines involved in the performanceof testing; union personnel perform these tasks\\. However, exempt salaried personnel in thisjob will work around explosives, pressurized systems, vacuum chambers andrelated hardware\\. All work must becompleted in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safetystandards\\.
Computer work required\\. Knowledgeof Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook is necessary\\.Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and otherstandard office equipment is required\\. Operation of a government motor vehiclemay be required\\.
Regular attendance and punctualityis required\\. Occasional overtime may be required in support of test projectschedules or other priority assignments as determined by management or customerneeds\\. Normal working hours are nine \\(9\\) hour per day with some flexibilitybased on pre\\-approval\\. A condensed work schedule, allowing alternate Fridaysoff, is typically in use for each two week pay cycle \\(9\\-80 schedule\\)\\.
Must be able to communicateeffectively with individuals at all levels of the organization\\. Must work wellunder pressure to meet deadline requirements\\. Dress must be appropriate for theposition and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others inaccordance with NASA and Company policies\\. Must be a U\\.S Citizen\\. Must possessa valid state driver s license\\. Must pass a Federal background investigation\\.Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NASA WhiteSands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification\\. Must submit topre\\-employment and random drug testing\\. Must maintain site access to NASAfacilities and computer systems\\.
